Here are Taipei City’s best running stores if you need to purchase gear and nutrition during your stay.
Many of the major international brands are available in Taipei, but you may find the selection limited if you are from one of the major Western cities. When there’s no sale, prices are generally on par or slightly higher than the rest of the world. If your luggage space permits, I recommend preparing everything you need before visiting.
Local tip: Not every store employee is an experienced runner or understands the subtle product differences. So, do your own research because you may not be able to get useful recommendations on-site.
This shopping district is a tourist favorite. Many athletic brands have established their flagship locations in the area, so it’s a good place to purchase running shoes and gear.
Transportation: The best way to get there is to take the Taipei Metro to the Ximen station, which is on both the Bannan (Blue) and Songshan-Xindian (Green) Lines.
There are quite a few Nike stores and retailers in Ximending, but these two locations are more running-centric. In regards to running-related items, they carry similar models. However, the Chengdu Road location typically stocks more lifestyle, gym, and basketball products.
There are many Adidas stores and retailers in Ximending, but this location has the broadest variety for running shoes and apparel.
Asic’s flagship store is also in the area. So, this is the place to be if you’re looking for something specific from this Japanese brand.
If you’re a fan of New Balance’s lifestyle and apparel collection, this location is worth a visit. However, running shoe selection is limited.
ISPO is a sports retailer with many locations in both Taipei City and New Taipei City. It has a store in Ximending, though not its biggest. Some of the brands this location carries are Hoka, On, Salomon, Snow Peak, and Arc’teryx etc.
Local tip:
Here’s a full list of ISPO locations.
Their flagship store is actually in the Shilin District, next to the world-famous Shilin Night Market. In addition to running items, it also carries the following brands: 2XU, Able Carry, Arc’teryx Bauerfeind, Casall, Gregory, Haglofs, HOKA, HydroFlask, LØCI, Mikasa, Mueller, Odlo, On, Salomon, Sidas, Smartwool, Snow Peak, Spalding, Speedo, UA, and Wilson.
Here are two more brands with decent-sized stores in Taipei City. If you’re looking for something specific from Hoka and Brooks, visit these locations.
Local tip: Hoka is distributed by the company behind ISPO, which means many ISPO stores stock models from Hoka. If you’re nowhere near the Da’an District, visit the above link for ISPO locations to find a more convenient spot. Call ahead to ensure the item you want is available.
This running specialty store near the tourist attraction Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall arguably has the best sports nutrition selection. The memorial hall is also a popular running spot, especially early mornings and evenings after work.
RunBase fulfills many runner needs. Across the street from the popular running spot Daan Park, it offers fitness classes, running groups, lockers, showers, food, and drinks. It also has a decent variety of sports nutrition products and some running gear.
Local tip: Taipei has the second highest number of convenience stores per capita in the world, about one store for every 1700+ people. I’m not just talking about dumpy gas station establishments either. Convenience stores here provide a wide range of delicious food and drinks, even sports nutrition products like energy drinks, gels, bars, protein drinks, and micronutrient supplements. From pre-run snacks and mid-run refuel to post-run recovery, convenience stores got you covered, and they’re everywhere! The largest store chains are 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, and Hi-Life.
For trail runners, hikers, and camping, these are my recommendations. They also carry sports nutrition products.
Visitors from Europe probably know this retail chain well. Decathlon has everything – decent product quality and great prices. It’s an excellent option for last-minute shopping, especially if you’re on a budget. Check out these six locations in Taipei City and New Taipei City.
Local tip: The Zhongshan and Guilin branches are the easiest to get to if you’re staying in Taipei City. However, if you want the widest product selection, I recommend visiting the Neihu and Zhonghe stores.
Local tip: Both Amouter and Rockland are outdoor boutiques in the Gongguan area. They have many cool items and brands, though everything is usually quite expensive. Employees are knowledgeable.
This outdoor store has a great backpack selection. There are several other outdoor retailers on this street as well.
